The Tshwane metro police are investigating some of its members who allegedly assaulted, insulted and unlawfully arrested, prof. André Thomashausen, a retired Unisa lecturer.

FF Plus councilor Awie Erasmus said his party welcomed the investigation.

Thomashausen was apparently pulled off the road in Irene, Centurion by metro police after a night out with two German friends.

“Complaints of assault, injury and intimidation against prof. Thomashausen has since been withdrawn in a Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, ”Erasmus explained.

Erasmus said this alleged “brutality of the Tshwane metro police” is strongly condemned. “Such behavior by metro police members is unacceptable.”

The screening and training of law enforcement officers in South Africa must be urgently placed under the magnifying glass to prevent incidents like this.

The FF Plus is awaiting the outcome of the investigation, after which further action will be considered by the party. ”
