A school in Soweto is left mourning after they lost the principal and a Grade 8 pupil just days apart.
Steve Mabona, Department of Education spokesman said confirmed that a Grade 8 pupil at Sebetsa-O-Tholemoputso High School died last Friday. The pupil was on his way home when lightning striked him, he was only a few miles away from the school.
The following Monday it was also reported that Fana Khoele who was the acting principal at the school had also passed away. “He collapsed at his home and died” said Mabona.

Today Panyaza Lesufi, MEC for Education in Gauteng appeared in a brief press release to discuss the incidents that had occured.
“The department have been going through difficulties, so we find it very hard for these things to continue to happen.” said Lesufi
He later goes on to say that they have visited the school already and later went to the family of the child that got hit by lightening
“Now we are here at the family of the principle, just to give them support and comfort and make them aware they are now alone, we are with them”
Lesufi finalises the short video by saying “We hope that our presence will help them feel healed”
