Mpumalanga police are looking for a gang of attackers who killed two people in Marloth Park, near Komatipoort, on Wednesday night.
Brig. Police spokesman Leonard Hlathi said the family of four were in their home when two men approached them about 3 p.m. “The family said there are no jobs available at this stage. Suddenly, more men emerged. One of them had a firearm, ”he said.
The victims were tied up and rags were pressed into their mouths. “The men took some valuable items and fled the scene. Two victims, the owner of the house and a woman visitor, suffocated. The [homeowner’s] wife and daughter survived. “
Hlathi said the suspects were still searching.
The victims’ names have not yet been released.
In a separate incident, a 44-year-old woman was also killed on Wednesday at a farm near Komatipoort. She was allegedly attacked with a panga, Hlathi said. Her left arm was severed, among other things, and she had several wounds to her body.
A 35-year-old man, the woman’s ex-boyfriend, has already been arrested.
“Upon the police’s arrival at the suspect’s house, they found him with a panga. It was presumably the murder weapon. He was arrested and will appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court tomorrow [Friday], ”Hlathi said.
