A man allegedly shot and killed a woman in the Killarney mall in Johannesburg this afternoon (Tuesday) before directing the firearm on himself.
Gauteng police confirmed the shooting in the mall just after 2pm and are investigating a murder case, while an inquest will also be registered.
Provincial police spokeswoman Mathapelo Peters says a man who is believed to be between 40 and 45 years old walked into a store selling shoes and handbags and introduced him to one of the employees.
“He then allegedly asked to speak to a second employee” who is his wife “alone. The man and woman went to a private room and shortly thereafter, shots were fired. “
Peters said emergency medical services arrived and both people were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Further information indicates that the shooting incident may be related to domestic violence. The police also seized the firearm used.”
