A man was allegedly caught in the Hartbeespoort area on a hot act while allegedly illegally processing platinum.
Orelio Capazario, 62, was arrested there and then. He was released on R5 000 bail on Friday in the British Magistrate’s Court, Capt. Hawks spokesman Tlangelani Rikhotso said in a media statement. Capazario appeared in court again on March 30 for illegally possessing unprocessed platinum worth about R800 000.
Rikhotso says the Hawks hit the house where Capazario was situated last Thursday. There they found a laboratory where valuable metals were apparently being processed. Capazario was allegedly smelting metals in the oven, among others. “Bags with unprocessed platinum, chemicals and other processing equipment were found in the house,” says Rikhotso.
The Hawks seized those goods.
