Police arrested about heroin worth about R1.4m last weekend when a man was arrested for drug trafficking in Bellair, KwaZulu-Natal.

Capt. Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala said the 38-year-old man was caught in a bag of pure heroin and 35,000 tablets of heroin in Wakesleigh Street in Bellair on Friday.

“The successful operation to curb drug trafficking in Bellair and surrounding areas is the result of mutual cooperation between members of the provincial drug and firearms unit and the provincial organized crime unit,” says Gwala.

The man remains in police custody and will soon appear in Durban Magistrate’s Court on drug trafficking charges.

“Similar operations against drugs in the province will continue despite claims made to police officers in other areas. We would also like to thank the community for providing us with information on drug dealers working in their neighborhoods, ”says Gwala.

Lt. Genl. Khombinkosi Jula, the provincial commissioner, praised the arresting police officers, saying it was an indication that the police’s special focus on the arrest of drug lords was starting to bear fruit.
