The man who killed a 72-year-old woman and abducted and raped two girls aged four and five, respectively, has been arrested.
The 30-year-old suspect was arrested after Eastern Cape Police Commissioner Liziwe Ntshinga implemented the police’s 72-hour activation plan.
The alleged incident took place on December 15 in the Mcuku informal settlement in Libode near Port St Johns.
The man allegedly found the woman and the two girls when he went home uninvited.
According to police preliminary investigation, the deceased sustained multiple stab wounds before leaving her on a mattress for dead outside her room.
The suspect allegedly abducted the two girls after the murder. He took them to another place where they were raped.
Ntshinga said the suspect remained in custody while police were investigating.
He will soon appear in the Libode Magistrate’s Court, and will face charges of murder, kidnapping, house robbery and rape.
Ntshinga praised the police officers who worked day and night and also the community who helped.
