After sustained pressure by AfriForum, Julius Malema, leader of the EFF, and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF spokesperson, are being prosecuted in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for the alleged assault of a SAPS colonel.
The case was postponed to August 31 due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
This comes after AfriForum announced in October last year that it would approach the court with a mandamus application to compel the National Prosecuting Authority to make a decision on the prosecution of Malema in this and two other pending cases against him.
Malema and Ndlozi allegedly assaulted a senior policeman in uniform in April 2018 at Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s funeral. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras.
The senior policeman filed a complaint with the police, but the complaint was never investigated.
