Former DA leader Mmusi Maimane will appear in court later this week on behalf of his new organization, One South Africa Movement, to set aside the decision to reopen schools amid the Covid 19 pandemic.
According to a statement, the case will be heard in the Pretoria High Court on Thursday and Friday.
That move comes after Maimane filed an urgent application earlier this month to the Constitutional Court to request that schools only reopen in three months. However, this application was rejected on the grounds that Maimane’s organization did not properly motivate why he was approaching this court directly.
Several similar cases against Motshekga and the education department have failed, including an application by the Educators Union of South Africa to re-close schools.
