The DA announced in a statement that John Steenhuisen is the party’s new parliamentary leader.
The nominations for the post officially closed at 8pm on Friday, says Annelie Lotriet, chair of the DA’s parliamentary caucus.
The post was unopposed and there was only one nomination, that of Steenhuisen.
“The DA’s parliamentary caucus is looking forward to working with Mr. Steenhuisen and he can be assured of our support. ”
This comes after he confirmed that he wants to be the DA leader.
“I can confirm that I submitted my name for nomination. I want to ensure that the DA team in Parliament continues to do the important work that millions of South Africans have sent us here, to build an alternative to the ANC and to hold the government accountable, ”he said on Friday afternoon.
