A Johannesburg primary school was closed as a precautionary measure on Monday because of the dreaded new coronavirus, the first of which was reported in South Africa last week in Covid-19.
Gauteng Department of Education spokesman Steve Mabona confirmed that the Grayston Preparatory School in Morningside is closed today.
Mabona referred questions about this decision to the Department of Health, which in turn promised to release more information later today.
eNCA reported that a teacher at the school allegedly had contact with one of the group of ten South Africans who returned from Italy. A 38-year-old man of this group became the first patient in South Africa to test positive for Covid-19 days later.
Health minister Zweli Mkhize, will address the situation at a news conference at 14:15.
