An Intercape bus has already been robbed on the way to Harare on December 7 near Polokwane.
“We can confirm that an Intercape bus was robbed at about 23:00 on December 7,” said Pieter Louw, Intercape spokesperson.
The bus departed from Johannesburg and was on its way to Harare when the driver and passengers were detained with firearms.
“The incident was reported to Polokwane police.”
He says Intercape’s senior management team immediately addressed the situation and is working with police to investigate the incident.
“The police obtained statements from the parties involved, after which the bus traveled further and arrived safely at its destination.”
Intercape says it’s important for them to keep their passengers safe at all times, and apologize for the robbery.
Intercape was unable to provide information about how the robbers got away after the robbery.
They say two passengers with false passports are apparently responsible for the incident.
Police did not respond to inquiries.
