A suspected rapist from Lindley’s snoring helped him get arrested quickly.
Lerato Mohono, 25, who fell asleep on the victim’s bed following an alleged rape, will apply for bail next Monday after being arrested in the Free State village early Friday morning.
Brig. Provincial spokesman Motantsi Makhele said Mohono appeared in the town’s court on Monday on charges of rape and burglary.
According to Makhele, Mohono allegedly went to the 59-year-old victim’s home in the early hours of February 20.
She was already asleep after which he broke the door. The woman was awakened by this and Mohono demanded money from her.
“When she said she had no money, he allegedly assaulted her before raping her.”
Makhele said after the rape, Mohono allegedly took the woman’s cellphone and fell asleep on the bed.
“After being in a deep slumber and snoring, she went to her neighbors for help.” Police were notified of the alleged rape.
Police found Mohono while he was still in dreamland and asleep.
Lt-Gen. Provincial Commissioner Baile Motswenyane says those who clash with the law will be fined for their offenses.
She thanked the Lindley community for working closely with police to arrest the suspect and not take the law into their own hands.
Mohono remains in custody.
