A Humansdorp woman is unharmed after being kidnapped by robbers on Sunday who used the bakkie she was occupying as a getaway car.
The robbers abducted the 39-year-old woman during the robbery.
The hijacked Nissan NP200 pickup truck was abandoned early Monday morning and found without wheels in KwaZakhele.
According to police in the Eastern Cape, the drama took place at about 11:45 on Sunday in the main street of Humansdorp.
Capt. Police spokesperson Gerda Swart says two men who posed as customers entered a business selling car batteries.
“Both the robbers picked out firearms and told the salesperson and two customers in the shop to lie on the ground. Two more armed men entered the business. “
The robbers emptied the cash registers and removed the company’s safe.
The safe was loaded onto the bakkie that was parked in front of the establishment. The woman was sitting in the bakkie while the owner of the bakkie was in the shop.
One of the men climbed into the bakkie and drove away.
The other three men drove away in a black BMW.
In Port Elizabeth, the kidnapped woman was dropped by the robber along the N2 in the Young Park area.
