Health Minister Mkhize have just said “Our estimations are in any community 60 to 70 percent of the community will be affected by the virus. Most of us will have the virus.”

The virus will spread in South Africa. Wide and far. But that’s not to say it’s going to be so deadly. I estimate 20% of all cases will be serious, but we want to limit it as far as we can. We don’t want a case where we have to scramble for extra respirators the minister said.

The Minister called on members of Sama to come up with proposals to improve South Africa’s emergency plans. With South African Medical Association’s
help, he is sure the crisis can be tackled. Maybe other countries will be able to learn from us. South Africa is unique, other countries do not have over seven million people who are HIV positive.

This comes after the Health Department confirmed on Thursday that South Africa now has 150 cases.
