I came to have a conversation tonight, hoping that I could get a lot of suggestions on how to face the Covid-19 challenge. This is exactly 14 days after the first patient was identified in KZN. This is how Health Minister Zweli Mkhize started his address to the nation.
Health Minister, Mkhize says he is “quite certain” that the number of positive cases will be past 200 by tomorrow.
We were panicked with one patient. I can tell you now that we are even more panicked. We did not expect the virus to spread rapidly. We are already drawing on 150 confirmed cases today said the minister.
According to Mkhize, the president left no stone unturned. This can be seen in all the different departments that are starting to implement plans one after the other. Our various churches today have also indicated that they plan not to hold large gatherings.
Also, the public looks up to us. We want to do things right. There should be no people who say someone does not know what they are doing, or other countries do things better than us. That is why it is so important to guard against false news said Mkhize.
The next aspect that needs to be addressed immediately is South Africa’s capacity to test for the virus. “I talked to the heads of private labs today and also Saturday so that the test can be standardized. They should all talk to each other so we can test for the virus more easily,” says Mkhize
South Africa must now also prepare to test thousands of people. So far, not so many tests have been done says Minister Mkhize
