The Health Professions Council (HPC) says it is deeply concerned about the continuing tendency of registered medical practitioners to employ unregistered relief staff in their practices.
“The RGB and law enforcement authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that the illegal use of fake health care practitioners is eradicated.”
In the latest incident, a Congolese man appeared in court on Thursday after he was arrested in Kraaifontein in Cape Town where he worked as a doctor. Dr. Kishule Prosper Bataciramwira is not registered as a doctor, but still saw patients at a practice of one Dr. ECA Mensah, the RGB said in a statement.
“Members of the community are encouraged to report any possible illegal actions by unregistered people. Registered practitioners should also not employ unregistered relief practitioners, as this endangers the lives of the public. ”
Healthcare workers must register with the council in terms of legislation before they can work in South Africa.
