Eskom warned electricity consumers on Thursday night that it would initiate Phase 2 load shedding from 22:00 to 5:00 Friday morning.

This comes after an announcement from Eskom earlier today:
A lack of maintenance and renovation work on Eskom’s power stations over the years has jeopardized the security of power supply, says Deputy President. David Mabuza.
This worrying situation is exacerbated by, among other things, the lack of coal or the provision of substandard coal.
He made these remarks on Thursday at the National Council of Provinces when asked about Eskom’s maintenance strategies to ensure the reliability of the power grid.
Mabuza says Eskom is responsible for maintaining its network in accordance with published standards measured against international practice.
“Over time, there were weaknesses in complying with published standards. However, we are working hard to ensure that Eskom returns to compliance with the published standards. ”
