A teenage girl was killed in the most gruesome way in Welkom less than a year ago.
Pabalelo Mokoena’s 15-year-old body was found on January 2 in an open field in Constantia Road, Welkom.
Police spokesman Stephen Thakeng says a tire, which was around Mokoena’s torso, was still burning.
Initially, police could not say whether the mutilated body was that of a man or woman and only parts of a black denim short could be identified.
Tsietsi Rasobi, 30, appeared in Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with Mokoena’s murder.
The murder of Naledi Lethoba, 21, is very similar to that of Mokoena. Her damaged body was discovered in Dagbreek, Welkom, in May. Lethoba’s breasts were cut off, her neck broken and a knife was stabbed in her neck.
Her body was also set on fire in an open field and was unrecognizably burnt. Her parents recognized her with the golden crowns in her front teeth.
Obed Leshoro, 19, was arrested for Lethoba’s murder and is currently awaiting trial.
On December 8, Nthabiseng Rampai, 22, was killed in a home in Reitzpark, Welkom. No one has been arrested in connection with this murder yet.
According to police, Rampai’s killer waited until her father left the house before raping and killing her.
Thakeng says Rasobi will remain in custody pending his bail application on January 22.
