A grade 9 learner from Germiston in Gauteng was first raped last Wednesday and then killed on the way back from school in the neighborhood of Elsburg. It is further alleged that the police did not act when she was initially reported missing.
I just came back from visiting a family of a learner who was allegedly stabbed, raped and burnt to death because the scholar transport left earlier than scheduled. While walking to the school she was brutally murdered. Yesterday was suppose to be her birthday ??? @Steve_Mabona

Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng MEC for education, visited Laticia Jansen’s (15) family on Sunday in Elsburg.
“She was stabbed, raped and murdered in a bush near Elsburg on Wednesday, January 22,” a statement from the provincial education department said.
“Unfortunately, nothing further has been done,” said the department’s statement.
The grandmother then reported her missing child to the school and they confirmed that she was not at school.
The grandmother asked other residents on Friday to help and they launched a search with the help of dogs. They then found Laticia’s body, which was apparently also set alight.
“It is sad that the grandmother had to return to the Elsburg police station to inform them of the horrific discovery,” the department’s statement read.
Lesufi found out with a visit to Laticia’s next of kin that a group of learners from Dukathole in Germiston were left behind by the education department’s transport on Wednesday.
“It sounds as if the group left Laticia as they walked home as she struggled with her heavy suitcase. It was the last time the other children saw her.”
The girl’s body was found between Brug Street and the N17 in Elsburg in the west of Ekurhuleni.
“The police were notified of a body by a family member and upon arrival at the scene, police confirmed that the 15-year-old victim had been killed.”
