The victim of a bullying incident at Jan Viljoen High School in Randfontein on the West Rand said he felt like a failure after the incident.
Earlier today, the video of the incident was widely circulated on social media.
“Don’t tell me you know. You have to know why you’re scared, ”she says when the boy doesn’t answer her.
However, it is when one of the bystanders encourages her to show him why he is afraid of her, that she tackles the boy. The schoolgirl punches the boy several times while she snaps abusive words at him.
“I felt like a failure,” the 15-year-old boy, who is in foster care with a family in Randfontein, told Rian van Heerden, presenter of The Scenic Drive on Jacaranda FM, on Thursday afternoon.
The girl’s father says he wants to get behind the facts first and make sense of the events before commenting.
Another family member of the boy had previously spoken to the girl about the bullying, to which she allegedly replied that she would continue with it.
According to the boy’s aunt, the principal told them that the pupil who made the video and the pupils who watched were also in trouble.
“The school governing body will, in time, facilitate the disciplinary process and the department will ensure that the correct procedures are followed,” Steve Mabona, the department’s spokesman, said in a statement.
The boy’s family filed a case of assault with police on Thursday. They are currently awaiting a case number.
“He tries to be brave, but he’s a laid-back kid.
“I try to cheer him up because he is worried about what people think of him because a girl has beaten him,” his aunt says.
