Gauteng did not ask the government for a complete return to the original containment regulations in the province, but that specific stricter measures should be reinstated.
That’s what Gauteng MEC Bandile Masuku said. This is the request made by the Gauteng Coronavirus Command Board to the National Command Board. They are now waiting for a final decision.
Some of the suggestions are that an evening bell rule and stricter measures to buy and sell alcohol will be introduced.
“We are not talking about a total restriction here. We have indicated that we may need to set an evening bell again to limit movement at certain times. We also want crowd control measures to be put in place and more strictly enforced, because most outbreaks that lead to fires come from such gatherings, ”Masuku said.
The restriction on buying and selling alcohol is because the eased measures put pressure on the government’s emergency services.
“Our goal is to use the measures that are enforceable and which can have the greatest impact in curbing the spread of the coronavirus,” Masuku said.
