Police Services in Gauteng have been carrying out ‘Safer Festive Season’ operations in multiple districts seeing over 700 criminals apprehended.
Brig Mathapelo Peters has released the statistics of the operation and it’s clear to see that it has been a major success this year.
West Rand saw one hundred and fifty nine arrests for various crimes including drug dealing, suspected stolen goods followed with non-compliant dealerships breaching the ” Second Hand Goods Act. “
Tshwane saw the most arrests that consisted of those violent in nature, over three hundred suspects have been arrested for crimes including murder, robbery rape and assault.
Ekurhuleni District arrests involved murder, rape, house robbery, business robbery, fraud, unlicensed weapons and dangerous weapons. The Ekurhuleni District saw one hundred and seventy arrests.
Johannesburg also saw arrests with eighty suspects successfully tracked down for crimes they have allegedly committed. The breakdown of crimes for JHB are as follows murder, rape and kidnapping.
Many of these crimes were committed throughout the year, Police services worked hard over the festive period to intensify investigations to lead to the arrests.
The courts within Gauteng will see the seven hundred suspects between 6th January – 7th January 2020.
