A 10-year-old girl was shot dead on Sunday night during a shooting between suspected gang members in a Cape Town suburb.
Brig. Police spokeswoman Novela Potelwa said in a statement police officers from Mitchell’s Plain police station and the local anti-gang unit arrested two suspects after responding to the shooting between two rival gangs in Tafelsig. The 10-year-old girl was fatally wounded during the shooting.
Potelwa said one of the suspects (26) was arrested in Olifantshoek Street. The other suspect, 21, was arrested not far from the scene with an illegal firearm in his possession.
“Both suspects have strong ties with local gangs,” says Potelwa.
Meanwhile, a strong police presence was established in the area until order was restored.
