A 29-year-old man allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and killed his three-year-old stepchild.
Police spokesman Jay Naicker said the incident happened in Esigangeni in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal.
“He was a fugitive for more than a month and couldn’t believe his eyes when police arrived at his new home in Cottonlands in Verulam. He was arrested on charges of murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He will appear in Nongoma Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.”
A 22-year-old woman, her daughter and her boyfriend were at their home on December 10, 2019 when the husband and wife started fighting.
“The man acted violently and assaulted the woman. He repeatedly hit the child on the floor. Although the woman cried and pleaded with him to stop, he continued to assault the child until the child was unconscious. He left the house immediately, ”Naicker explained.
The three-year-old and her mother were taken to a local hospital, but the girl died of her injuries. “When the suspect heard that the child had died and that a murder case was being investigated, he left the area and hid in the hope that no one would find him. His nightmare became a reality at 3 am on Sunday morning when police officers from Verulam arrived at his new home and arrested him. “
