The Oudtshoorn High Court on Thursday proceeded with a life sentence for the former ANC councilor. Magdalene Titus was found guilty of hiring a hitman who executed the brutal killing of her husband.
The murder of her husband (Preston Titus) was carried out by Justice Mooi back in 2017, It has been said that Magdalene was in her husband’s presence when the murder was carried out.
The courts heard that Magdalene made plans for the murder, at the time of the murder one of the children of the couple were sleeping in another room.
Magdalene originally planned for the attack to occur on the 30th of November, Mooi and his accomplice (Vusi) were unable to go through with this date due to two friends came over to visit Preston.
After careful consideration of another date, it was decided that December 1st would be when attempts were made again. The afternoon of December 1st Magdalene was not happy as her children were awake so she suggested giving them sleeping pills.
Later that evening Magdalene gave the green light and put together a bag of belongings to stage it as a robbery. The attack was ‘brutal’ and involved multiple stabbings, assaulted with a hammer and also the use of pepper spray.
While the father of Magdalene lays in a pool of blood the youngest daughter is sleeping in another room and Penelope the oldest is attending a social gathering.
Magdalene knew that Penelope would return home soon, on her arrival Magdaleen pretended to scream hysterically and acted out that she had just discovered the body. Police later arrived at the property to carry out the investigation.
The next days that passed those that were involved made attempts to hide evidence. All four were later arrested on December 3rd, 2017. Two of those involved were later acquitted leaving Mooi and Magdalene to be convicted for murder in November 2019.
