Police are still searching for a suspect who allegedly stabbed Menelisi Mnikathi (42) on the 3rd January 2020, the victim sustained stab wounds to the chest and was declared dead at the scene.
After the incident occured Plessislaer SAPS open a case of murder and begun to investigate. They proceeded to investigate a property that the suspect could be residing, when they made their presence known one occupant ran away whilst holding a firearm.
The Police pursued the occupant and whilst giving chase the man fired multiple shots towards the officers, the Police returned fire and a bullet injured the mans leg.
The man was arrested and found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and three rounds of ammunition.

The suspect that caused the fatal stabbing is still on the loose and the investigation continues. The occupant that returned fire at the officers will appear at Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court today for Attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
