A farm worker was shot dead on Tuesday when at least three robbers struck a farm in the De Wagensdrift area outside Pretoria.
According to André van Heerden, deputy chairman of the Cullinan community policing forum, four farm workers were attacked at about 20:00 after the robbers were apparently cut into a fence to gain access to the farm.
“They shot one of the workers, a Mozambican, through a steel door.”
He said the robbers then ordered one of the other workers to open the farmhouse.
“They stole several articles and loaded them onto the farm bakkie. They only left here at 04:00, ”says Van Heerden.
Televisions, refrigerators and freezers were stolen from the main house and a television and refrigerator from the farm workers.
“I suspect they were not from around here because we couldn’t find any trace of them,” says Van Heerden.
He said the farm workers were tied up and could not immediately seek help.
“One of them was able to unwrap himself and went for help.”
The owner was not home at the time of the incident.
Capt. Provincial police spokeswoman Kay Makhubela says police are investigating home robbery and murder charges.
“Three suspects are being sought,” he says.
Makhubela appealed to anyone with information about the incident to come
