A Botswana citizen has been sentenced to death after he killed his employer on her Kalahari farm.
Michael Mpe, 29, robbed, abducted and assaulted Reinette Johanna Vorster on her farm in Ghanzi on January 30, 2014, before killing her.
Mpe’s sentence was confirmed in a media statement on Saturday by the Botswana government.
Mpe was convicted by the Botswana High Court on May 18, 2018, of kidnapping, violent robbery, vehicle theft, property damage, and Vorster’s murder.
According to the statement, Mpe’s appeal was rejected by the appellate court.
The death penalty has been enforced in Botswana since its independence from Britain in 1966.
