A wounded 71-year-old cattle farmer from Harding in KwaZulu-Natal traveled about 19 km on Christmas Day to get help after being attacked with a butcher’s knife on his farm.
Netwerk24 reported:
“The attack on my friend was at around 3pm on Wednesday afternoon after his two sons and their wives, who visited him on Christmas Day, left,” a shocked 60-year-old friend of the farmer told Netwerk24. He did not want to disclose their names for security reasons.
An unknown man gained access to the farmhouse shortly after the visit and threatened the farmer with a butcher’s knife.
“The attacker’s face was not covered. He demanded money and firearms. There was a scramble in which my friend sustained cuts to his head, left breast and left leg. In a desperate attempt to get away from his attacker, he jumped into the pool. The attacker followed, but struggled to get out of the water again, which gave my friend enough time to get out and stumble to his Toyota pickup truck to seek help. He was very weak at that stage, after the struggles. “
The farmer was able to get away with his bakkie from the farm with great difficulty.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident on Thursday.
“A case of armed robbery is being investigated. Only one cellphone is missing from the house. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, ”says Gwala.
