Two suspects are expected to appear in the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court in North West on Tuesday in connection with a farm attack this weekend outside the town.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said the suspects gained access to a couple’s farm on Sunday evening after which they allegedly attacked and assaulted the man (66) and woman (65).
The suspects then fled with a laptop, three cell phones, and other household items.
According to Mokgwabone, the man was seriously injured during the incident. However, he was able to raise alarm at the neighbors who notified the police. They, in turn, arrested the suspects about two kilometers from the farm in collaboration with farm patrols.
The suspects were in possession of the victims’ cell phones at this stage. A preliminary investigation led police to an abandoned home in the area where they found the laptop and other household items that had been stolen during the attack.
The suspects, aged 44 and 48, respectively, will appear in court on charges of attempted murder and armed robbery. One of the suspects was previously employed at a neighboring farm.
Lieutenant General. Northwest Police Chief Baile Motswenyane praised the Zeerust detectives, the police dog unit as well as those involved in the farm patrols for the arrests.
