A farm fraudster scheme comes to an end, A 34-year-old man Gerhard Niewoudt Olivier appeared in Malmesbury District court today where he was granted R50,000 bail but must follow strict conditions.

The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation was following Olivier closely and with enough evidence available they successfully carried out the arrest.

The fraud venture by Olivier has been reported to date back from 2010, in total he has accumulated R18.4 million worth of fraudulent money.

Olivier would portray himself as a “wealthy farm owner” and promise to his victims to sell farming equipment and other various items for good prices. He managed to trick several investors into believing his story which allowed him to accumulate large financial gains over the years.

The case has been postponed until the 9th of April 2020 to give time for new victims to come forward if they believe they have been conned by Olivier.

It has been urged that if you believe you’ve been conned by Olivier in the past you should come forward and speak to the investigating teams – Colonel Schiltz on 082 471 6756 or Warrant Officer Wynand Olivier on 071 481 3326.
