South Africans must use electricity sparingly on Sunday, Eskom asks in a statement on social media.
Eskom earlier announced stage 2 load shedding will be set for Sunday from 9am to 11pm.
“Loadshedding is needed for the rest of the day to prevent further interruptions and to build capacity so that the water reserves of our pump storage schemes can be replenished,” Eskom said on Twitter.
“We did not use any of our open cycle gas turbines yesterday (Saturday) nor do we plan to use it today to save it for our emergency reserves for the coming week,” Eskom says.
“We are still asking people to reduce their use because a concerted effort can help avoid load shedding or reduce their level.”
Eskom has further advised consumers to use more efficient heat in the current wet and cold conditions in some parts of the country and switch off their geysers during peak times.
