Jabu Mabuza chairman resigned from his post on Friday.

Ramaphosa said in a statement that he knows of Mabuza’s resignation.

Mabuza apologized for the inability of Eskom to keep their word that South Africa will no longer suffer from load shedding. The chairman also apologized for giving false information to the president.

Pravin Gordhan has accepted Mabuza’s resignation. Ramaphosa thanked Mabuza for serving Eskom and the nation for a challenging period and commended him for taking responsibility for events under his leadership.

“In the wake of the resignation, the government will soon announce a newly constituted Eskom council with the appropriate experience of the electricity industry, engineering, and corporate governance experience,” the statement says.

Ramaphosa ended by wishing Mabuza luck.

This comes after Eskom’s inability to keep the lights on and made a statement that South Africa will still face load shedding for the next two years.
