Escaped captivity, Shiraaz Mohamed returned home safely in South Africa

Shiraaz Mohamed is a South African photojournalist, he travelled to the Middle East on a mission to support ‘Gift of Givers’. Whilst in the Middle East he was taken and held captive, he remained in captivity for three years.

In April this year a video was released by his captors and sent to the ‘Gift of Givers’ where he can be seen pleading for help.

Shiraaz Mohamed (SABC) – Pleading for help

Mohamed’s family released the information on Friday that he has returned home in South Africa and is in safe hands.

Mohamed was in captivity for a long period of time and the living conditions he had to endure is currently unknown.

The family released a statement and requested that they are given some space during these times and all questions will be answered and sent to the media in ‘due course’

“Owing to his recent circumstances, he and our family are requesting that we be given some space,” the family said in a statement on Friday.

“In due course and soon, we will issue a statement and engage with the media.”
