Emfulen is hitting crisis point again with an environmental issues, residents are today reporting that raw sewage is leaking into houses and streets.
Back in February 2019 there was a project to clean up the Sebokeng water treatment plant but money dried up fast, the South African National Defence Force were then left to address the crisis.
@CyrilRamaphosa @PresidencyZA These pictures are from the house of an Emfuleni resident. Sewage forced back through the toilets. If this was at your official residence, would you be happy?? It’s time to act CEO. Emfuleni must be declared a disaster area! pic.twitter.com/zq00ghmlq0— Michael Holenstein (@MikeHolenstein) November 17, 2019
The Water&SanitationRSA tweeted that they would like residents to help with the clean up to stop river pollution.
The water and sewage infrastructure in the district is under heavy stress due to blockages, with such build up the only way for the sewage to go is the streets or into residents houses.
People are declaring this as a disaster for the region and that it should be addressed as soon as possible before diseases are spread and people become ill.
Raw sewage flowing through the streets of Emfuleni. The Municipal and Provincial leadership should be locked up for the serious health hazard in our towns today. What an utter disgrace. Politicians have really stuffed up local government over the years. pic.twitter.com/vu3OftI54P— Wayne Duvenage (@wayneduv) November 16, 2019
