A 76-year-old woman was found dead in her bedroom in Rondebosch on Thursday after burglars entered her room.
Western Cape police spokesperson Siyabulela Malo says charges of murder, as well as house robbery and car theft, are being investigated following the incident that happened at Station Road about 3:35 p.m.
“When police arrived, they found her dead in her bedroom. The house was looted and electronic devices, as well as the victim’s vehicle, were stolen. “
Malo said the woman’s car was found abandoned in ImizamoYethu in Hout Bay.
Malo says a post-mortem will be done to determine the cause of her death. No one has been arrested yet.
Monica Sutherland, former chairman of the Taxpayers Association of Rondebosch-Rosebank and a local resident, expressed her shock over the murder and said crime in the area was getting out of hand.
“Criminals just aren’t punished hard enough. It is shocking that the elderly are targeted in their homes. Many people are forgetful, too, and do not always remember to put their safety first. It’s sad that an elderly, defenseless woman was killed in her own bedroom, ”she said.
