Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of house robbery after four armed criminals robbed an elderly woman at a care facility in Port Elizabeth on Thursday night.
Capt. Police spokeswoman Sandra Janse van Rensburg says a 76-year-old woman opened the door of her room in a care center on Lakeside Road in Chelsea during the power outage to let her dog out.
Right after the crimals assaulted and threatened her with a firearm and an iron pole.
Janse van Rensburg said the suspects forced the woman back into the room in the dark and demanded cash. They also entered three more rooms in the resort and stole cash and two cell phones.
Janse van Rensburg says police are now calling on the public, especially those who live in care centers, to be vigilant especially at night and at night during load shedding.
“Always be prepared [for load shedding] and be aware of the scheduled times. Keep your doors and windows closed and do not reply to someone you do not expect. Try to do tasks before the lights go out, ”warns Janse Van Rensburg.
