The Economic Freedom Fighters are calling for the immediate and urgent reopening of parliament.
In a statement released by the EFF, it says that the organization is calling for an urgent reopening of parliament to hold President Ramaphosa responsible for actions taken during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The organization calls for parliament to reopen with guaranteed social distancing and safety of all members of Parliament and staff members.
The EFF calls for parliament to be convened in Tshwane Events Centre because the venue is spacious enough for social distancing and will allow members of parliament to conduct their work without compromising their health.
In the statement, the EFF refers to Ramaphosa as the blue-eyed boy of the white capitalist establishment which owns and controls media in South Africa. The EFF says that the President has not been asked questions by the media over the COVID-19 management.
According to the EFF, the National Assembly rules says under the section on “Unforeseen Circumstances” that “the Speaker may give a ruling or frame a rule in respect of any eventually for which these rules or orders of the House do not provide, having due regard to the procedures, precedents, practices, and conventions developed by the House based on constitutional values and principles underpinning an open, accountable and democratic society”.
