The EFF leader in Limpopo was arrested for intentional property damage and theft. Jossey Buthane, was arrested on Monday after he and a group of people met with residents in Seshego on Sunday.
Limpopo police spokesman said that a group of people encouraged by Buthane set zinc huts on fire.
Another house in zone three in Seshego was apparently damaged and two cellphones were reportedly stolen.
Buthane was arrested along with Boy Mamabolo, 36, a well-known ANC member in Polokwane, and Motladi Setsiba, 46.
They appeared briefly in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were each released on R500 bail.
Buthane is furious because he was arrested and denied being involved in any crime in Seshego.
“The police are asleep on duty, so we did their work for them and handed them seven suspects who could possibly be linked to gang operations. When the police woke up, I was arrested, ”says Buthane.
