The EFF demands that Parliament and Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs launch an official inquiry into last Friday’s events in the Northwest Legislature, where several of its members were allegedly assaulted and thrown out.
Vuyani Pambo, national EFF spokesman, appealed on behalf of Julius Malema’s party because “the opposition cannot be victimized and assaulted in a democratic society if they claim accountability”.
Earlier it was reported how the fists clattered on Friday in the Northwest Legislature when EFF members were beaten harshly during Mokgoro’s provincial speech on Friday.
Speaker Susan Dantjie ordered security officers to escort the EFF members outside due to disruptive actions.
Pambo says Dantjie refused to give the EFF the opportunity to make their points in order to hold Mokgoro accountable.
Dantjie’s office said in a statement that she strongly condemned Friday’s events, while also instructing the legislature’s secretary to look into it and submit a report on it within seven days.
North West police spokesman Sam Tselanyane said on Sunday that two cases of assault due to the above-mentioned events are being investigated by the Mmabatho police station.
