Two cash-in-transit robbers will appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court for a heist in the Eastern Cape in January.

According to a media statement by a HAWKS spokesperson Bongikhaya Mthwazi (27) was arrested last week Thursday, 05 March 2020 and he made a brief appearance at the same court.  Mthwazi is the second suspect to be arrested. He joins Litha Fulela (35) who was arrested on 11 February 2020.

Both suspects were arrested in the Mthatha area by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation of the Hawks with the assistance of the Tactical Response Team (TRT).

It is alleged that on the morning of 03 January 2020, G4s security company guards were collecting money at a superstore in Mthatha when they were approached by four unknown armed men who subsequently robbed them off a substantial amount of money.

The robbers fled the crime scene in a silver grey VW Polo.  Investigations started in earnest which led to the arrest of the first suspect Fulela in February and Mthwazi was detained last week Thursday. Investigations to trace the other remaining suspects are still ongoing.
