Durban Metro Police have recently been met with thousands of people hitting the beaches and streets, spirits are still high from the festive period alongside the nice weather that is hitting the area.

Durban Metro Police are working to remind people that it is illegal to consume alcohol and even be intoxicated in public.

Steve Middleton, Head of Ethekwini / Durban Metro Police has taken to social media to educate citizens and remind them of the laws that all should abide by.

Analysing the comments it becomes apparent that people are unaware of the law with people saying “We did not know this was illegal”.

Under the ‘eThekwini Municipality: Nuisances and Behaviour in Public Places By-law, 2015’ Chapter 4 ‘Prohibited conduct’ it states that ‘No person in a public place should consume any liquor or be in a state of intoxication’
