Representatives from the Department of Health have been in Northern cape to prepare “Provincial Heads, Cluster Commanders, Station Commanders, section heads and the Community Policing Board” about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), said Brig. R Ramatseba.
Overnight South Africa saw 7 more confirmed cases bringing the total up to 13, this is an 85% increase from the previous day. South Africans are still adviced to maintain good hygeine and wash their hands, avoid shaking hands and not to panic.
While in Northern Cape the Department of Health spoke about their readiness for the possible outbreak, alongside speaking to the members on how to mitigate the virus in the country.
Members attending the meeting had the opportunity to ask the Department of Health representatives, Riaan Syrydom, Martin Son and Christine Lamprecht any questions they had regarding COVID-19.
Educating the frontline support of the community is a great step to spread awareness of the virus and for Police members to pass on the advice they have gained to community members. Supporting community members with advice and reminding them to keep good hygeine can further mitigate the risks of the virus spreading.
