The Democratic Alliance has stressed that the government has yet to release clear and precise information on the lockdown, they have stated that they need to provide “strict and clear implementation of these regulations”.
The lockdown is a great way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa however, the party has said that the country cannot simply afford to apply the lockdown if it does not bring “meaningful results in our fight against this pandemic.”
The party today released a statement explaining that the public needs to be properly informed of what is and what is not allowed during the lockdown. During the time of a ‘natural disaster’ as stated by President Ramaphosa, the party believes that there is no time for mixed messages.
“This morning the Minister of Health, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, has confirmed that there are now 709 cases of those who have been infected by the Coronavirus. This number is expected to rise exponentially over the coming days and weeks. ”
“That is why clear communication to the public; increased testing capacity; availing of isolation facilities and encouraging those who can stay at home to do so, will be key.” said Siviwe Gwarube MP
The epicenter has been speculated to exist in Manguang said the Democratic Alliance due to a large number of infections in the area. This can be a major issue for the Free State as the party has said that the medical system could struggle with the infected.
