Hillcrest Police and Local Security were engaged in an operation last night to eradicate illegal weapons off the street. Whilst doing their rounds they spotted suspicious vehicle with three occupants inside.
During their search they found the occupants to be in possession of an ‘AK47’ and 39 rounds of ammunition. The AK47 is deemed as an extremely powerful and dangerous weapon, these rifles can fire 600 rounds per minute.
All occupants of the vehicle were charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, further investigations revealed the car was stolen in Bellair last week.
Those who have been charged will attend Pinetown Magistrates Court tomorrow and also determine if the theft of a vehicle is linked to those charged.
