A Limpopo woman who disappeared without a trace in January was found in a shallow grave outside Seshego on Friday.
Kgotatso Pula, 27, reported her missing to police on January 2.
Brig. Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo police spokeswoman, says Pula’s family claims she went to visit her boyfriend in Seshego outside Polokwane before she disappeared.
Police launched a major search for Pula in January but couldn’t find her.
Mojapelo said police’s crime intelligence unit, detectives and the provincial investigation team’s investigation led them to a home in Moletji Ga-Setati on Friday.
Lt.kol. Richard Boshomane of the provincial detectives was in charge of the investigation.
The house and yard were combed and a shallow grave with human remains was found. The remains were identified as those of Pula.
Pula’s boyfriend apparently lived in the house.
Mojapelo says a 30-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon and is in police custody. He will appear in Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of kidnapping and murder.
Nkakareng Rakgoale, MEC for social development in Limpopo, says she is shocked by the gruesome murder of Pula.
“The ongoing police investigation shows that there is an urgency to stop violence against women and children. People who abuse, assault and murder women and children must be locked up for the rest of their lives, ”says Rakgoale.
She sent social workers to Pula’s family for counseling.
