A 28-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband at the Madeira police station in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape on Monday afternoon when she wanted to file a case of domestic violence against him. The man apparently chased her to the police station.
Brig. Police spokesperson Tembinkosi Kinana said while the woman was reporting the case against her 42-year-old husband at the police station’s community service center, he suddenly entered the station.
“Without saying a word, he started shooting at his wife. She just died from her gunshot wounds, “said Kinana.
The man apparently tried to escape after the shooting, but was pursued by the police and arrested. Police seized his firearm and sent it for ballistic tests.
The man is apparently a security guard at a well-known security company in Mthatha.
Lt.Gen. Provincial Commissioner of Police Liziwe Ntshinga strongly condemned the killing.
“The fact that the suspect pursued the deceased to the police station shows a deliberate attack on the woman. I am deeply shocked. “
Ntshinga also praised the police for their good work in arresting the man so quickly.
“Violence against women is unforgivable and therefore justice must be done.”
A case of murder was filed against the man. He will appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court soon.
