A video had surfaced on Social Media over the weekend with members of the public raiding a Shoprite store on Sunday 5th April in Cape Town, Langa. The South African Police Service has now released a statement that the matter is being investigated and already two arrests have been made.
A 33-year old woman from Gugulethu has been alleged to be at the store taking liquor and was arrested, a further arrest was made against a 48-year old suspect on Sunday. Both suspects have been charged with burglary and theft, they will appear in court at a later date.
The people entering the shop appeared to only be targeting the liquor from the store, with others even loading up trolleys and after making a run for it. The SAPS are working to trace as many people seen on the CCTV and carry out more arrests.
Police have said that they will continue their investigations.
