More police will be deployed in the Kamesh police area in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape after two men were shot dead on the streets yesterday.
Brig. Ronald Koll, acting commander of the Uitenhage police area, on Thursday afternoon ordered the additional manpower in the area so that the “senseless murders” could be averted.
This comes after Dyllon Jason Arends, 26, and Lewin Cowie, 21, died in two separate shooting incidents.
Arends was shot by an unknown man at about 12:00 on Thursday while standing on a street corner with friends.
Arends was shot several times in his torso. He died on arrival at the hospital.
Just over two hours later, Cowie was shot dead in Spekboom Drive, about 2 km from where Arends was shot.
According to police information, he was approached by two men in the street. Both men allegedly pulled out firearms and fired several shots at him. He died on the scene.
Police are investigating the motive and possible connection between the two murders.
